Winter Garden Visitors

Yesterday a Stoat spent half an hour in the garden.  It seemed interested in a squirrel, but wasn't able to deal the death blow.  The rest of the time it ran around on the lawn.  It jumped down a hole and popped up another.  We've had a female Brambling for over a fortnight, and the flock of local Long-tailed Tits passes through the garden from time to time.  Meanwhile even the Blue Tit looks good among the reddening cotoneaster leaves.  Unfortunately, all these photos were taken through glass sometimes on very overcast days.

Bits and Pieces of Tolkien

I  haven't had chance to post about Tolkien's time in East Yorkshire recently.  This is mainly because it's been such a hectic Autumn with many venues having to be changed at short notice because of the poor weather conditions. A sign placed on Brooklands Officers' Hospital after WW1 However, this all changed yesterday with a new connection being brought to my attention, about the period just after Tolkien's convalescence.  Phil Mathison, author of Tolkien in East Yorkshire , acting on a tip-off let me know that there may be a plaque concerning Brooklands Officers' hospital in Hedon Museum.  The museum is only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so yesterday because it was half-term was my chance.  I asked the elderly gentleman on the desk, and luckily, he vaguely remembered something and took me to a neglected corner of the museum.  I asked him if it would be possible to photograph it.  I was allowed to carefully place the plaque somewhere where it could be photo

A Bright Start, then...

On Tuesday we started with waders on the seashore.  These included Purple Sandpiper, Turnstones, Redshank and Oystercatcher.  There were also Common Gulls, Black-headed Gulls and Carrion Crows.  We then drove to Bempton for a dose of birds of the rocky cliffs.  We were very lucky to see a single early-returning Puffin on the sea.  We also observed a raft of Gulls, but it was only when a larger bird flew over them, and they answered with a din, that we knew that they were Kittiwakes  There were more Guillemots and Razorbills on the cliff, which had joined the larger numbers of Gannets and Fulmars.  A walk along the cliff top resulted in several singing Skylarks, and Tree Sparrows abounded near the RSPB buildings. "We become what we think about" Suatu hari di masa lampau, saya berpikir dan memikirkan suatu usaha yang terus menghasilkan uang dan memberi manfaat untuk banyak orang yang terlibat dalam usaha tersebut, dan usaha itu tanpa "harus" bermodal "uang". Saya juga pernah di masa lampau, berpikir dan sering memikirkan sebuah mobil yang saya kendarai, saya menyukai mobil itu. (Saat itu, jangankan mobilnya, mengemudikan mobil pun saya belum bisa). Dan saya juga pernah dan sering memikirkan tinggal di rumah yang menyenangkan, banyak tawa ria dan nyaman di dalamnya maupun di lingkungan masyarakatnya yang ramah. (Saat berpikir dan memikirkan itu, jangankan uang untuk beli rumah, untuk membeli mie rebus di burjo saja mikir). Apakah yang saya pikirkan itu sudah saya dapatkan? YA.
